I think Wacky Wednesday should be changed to Weary Wednesday. That's about how I'm feeling right now. I don't know if it's an age thing or simply just an ongoing mood that I'm in. I just feel 'blah'. Part of it is that I've been leading a pretty crazy schedule lately. Riah, (our 14 year old youngest) tried out for the summer basketball team at school. Mind you, she played basketball when she was 6 at the local YMCA, but that doesn't count because they never kept score. Anyway, she wasn't feeling too confident that she'd make the team so I was a little, (just a little bit) relieved that I wouldn't have to drop off, pick up and maneuver a basketball schedule around orthodontist appointments and writing deadlines. Well, she made the team after all. Wahoo! I'm thrilled because this will be a boost to her confidence, but now I'm trying to figure out how I can stretch myself in several different directions. I am reminded that with God all things are possible, so I'm going to hold on to that thought and pray that someone on her team might have a parent willing to do a carpool trade.
Back to being weary...so today my other job visited the local fire station. It was a nice little walk except the kids were all about running. Keeping an eye on them was a huge challenge. Then, darn those little plastic fire hats that kept flying off their heads as they ran. I finally told them that the next time their fireman's hat flew off towards the street, it would be permanent road pizza. I'm tired, slightly grumpy and needing a break. This weekend I'm going to take Deidre's advice and enjoy some 'me' time, afterall I think I'm worth it.
As usual here are a few practical and not so practical weight loss/eating tips:
Have you ever tried eating spaghetti with a spoon? Try switching up on your eating utensils. Forks are great with rootbeer floats. You may not get a lot in your mouth but the attempt is well worth it. Spoons are also fabulous for eating pizza, and even hamburgers. I don't suggest eating steak with a spoon unless it's really tender.
Celebrate condiments. Select a condiment for the day and use generously at each meal. Ketchup may taste good on eggs and potatoes but it may not go well on chicken alfredo or cheesecake. You can switch it up if you're brave engouh. Try a little mustard on a burrito. Since it's confusing to the tastebuds you're probably going to eat a smaller portion.
Okay finally, I'm a Grey's Anatomy fan. I tivoed the season finale which was pretty bloody. Eating a sumptuous meal and watching Grey's definitely wouldn't have worked for me. Now, maybe a glass of wine and a little cheese... no problem but trying to choke down a full course meal while viewing Dr. McDreamy's surgery...a whole 'nother story. These are not tried and true so I have to issue a disclaimer. If you're brave enough to give it a try, let me know. Take the time this week to celebrate YOU!
Merry Christmas to All

I think the car pooling idea is a good one. It would seem that some other Mom's would be having the same issue.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of switching up your utensils. It would certainly help you to eat slower!
I use chopsticks when I eat my spaghetti!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
I watched that GA finale, too. I hadn't watched that show in over three years, but it was a good finale. There was no eating going on while watching that one!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your "me time."
Ah congrats to your youngest for making the team! My fiancee is a basketball official. Basketball is fun in our house.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are very busy. Thank you for the suggestions to help with weight loss. I really like Grey's, I thought the show was very good but bloody for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit too much shooting on Grey's Anatomy. I was wondering what was taking the SWAT team so long to get in there?
ReplyDeleteThe tips are good but what do you do when you give up and just use your fingers?
Mustard on burritos? Nope! Not me! Maybe Baby Boo but not me!
